India is one of the fastest growing markets for outbound tourism: UNWTO

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), India is one of the fastest growing markets for outbound tourism in the world. Now with the recovering economy, improved consumer confidence and attractive tour packages, the number of Indians travelling abroad is almost double the number of inbound travellers visiting the country.

The report also made note of a new trend i.e. the emergence of an Indian market that is ready to travel almost any time of the year, with most airlines  reporting above average load factors throughout the year. The result is that ‘low-season’ airfares are considered to be ‘shoulder-season’ fares.

The report also  stated that  families without young children, that comprise a large segment of travellers, are choosing ‘off-season months’ to dodge high-season prices and the crowds.  In addition, various destinations are putting together events like the ‘Passion Play’ that takes place in Oberammergau, Germany and the Military Tattoo Parade in Edinburgh, Scotland. Consequently, companies like Globus and Cosmos are targeting Indian travellers by introducing winter vacation packages, as mentioned by Gauri Jayaram, Regional Director- South Asia and Middle East, Globus family of brands.
